The Founder of Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada, a major Centre for meditation and modern Buddhism, is Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. A world-renowned meditation master, he is author of 23 highly acclaimed books and founder of over 1200 Centres worldwide.

Venerable Geshe-la has pioneered the introduction of modern Buddhism into contemporary society and his teachings perfectly transmit the ancient wisdom of Buddhism to our modern world. Because of this we are extremely fortunate to be guided by this unique and humble Buddhist monk, yogi and scholar.

Modern Kadampa Buddhism is a special, practical presentation of Buddha’s teachings that is particularly suited to the modern day. It was introduced into contemporary society by the world-renowned meditation master and scholar Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.

Modern Kadampa Buddhism preserves the meaning and intention of Buddha’s original teachings while presenting them in a clear and systematic way that anyone of any nationality, age or gender can easily understand and put into practice.

Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada (KMCC) was established in 2008 to provide people in Toronto and throughout Canada with the opportunity to learn about and practise Buddha’s teachings. Located near downtown Toronto, close to ‘Little Italy’, KMCC is a peaceful oasis in the city where anyone can learn the right methods to experience lasting happiness and well-being. We offer regular classes and courses for both beginners and those who are looking for more in-depth study.

KMCC is the National Temple of Canada and is part of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU), a non-profit organization with a global network of over 1,000 Centres and groups in over 45 countries. Everybody is welcome!

KMCC is a registered charity and non-profit organization. Our Centre is only run by volunteers and all activities are dedicated to the development of world peace. All funds raised through our events go into the International Temples Project Fund (ITP), an international charity which supports the development of Temples and Centres around the world such as KMC Canada.

The purpose of meditation is to cultivate positive mental states and overcome negative habits. Through meditation we learn that happiness is a state of mind and that the real source of happiness lies within, not in external situations.

When our mind is peaceful we are free from worries and mental discomfort, and we experience true happiness. Meditation is the method to make our mind peaceful and can be practiced by anyone.
